Caravan Music Club plays host to a six-gun celebration of alt-country and trad-roots music on Friday May 25th. Titled “Saloon Shaker”, the event features six of the best emerging artists in the genre… Grizzly Jim Lawrie, Tracey McNeil Band, Saint Jude, Ruby Boots, Quarry Mountain Dead Rats and The ReChords.
Ruby Boots will be bringing a touch of the west to the night, as this is the first Melbourne stop on their national tour. Taking their big sounding hoedown on the road for the first time outside WA, Ruby Boots’ tour kicks of in Sydney on May 17 and hitchhikes along the coast through Newcastle, Illawarra, Canberra, Melbourne and Rye before finishing in Perth on June 1st. But they can’t wait to play at the Caravan Music club where many of their east coast friends have played in the past.
Over the last 20 months of gigging, Ruby Boots have been a part of the growing alt-country and new-folk scene, which has landed them gigs with Wagons, Justin Townes Earle, The Waifs and TinPan Orange. Then after their successful EP launch in October, the Boots started making plans to head out on the road and meet some of the other bands writing and performing the styles they love so much. When they discovered the amount of great bands on offer in Melbourne, the idea for Saloon Shaker was born.
With six bands on the bill, there’s going to be plenty of toe tapping, knee slapping, hip swinging and ass shaking going on, so you’re in for a great night. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets available presale and on the door.
